Mt Hutt Ski Area is to open this Wednesday, June 13. The ski area has enjoyed excellent snowmaking conditions over the last few days with freezing temperatures and little wind allowing more than 90 hours continuous snowmaking.
Since last Thursday, more than 21,000,000 litres of water have pumped through the snowmaking systems creating a base of approximately 20-25cm across the beginners area, Highway 72 and Broadway trails.
Ski Area Manager Dave Wilson says the transformation from last week to this week was amazing. “Temperatures have been incredibly cold, down to -9 degrees. It’s been the best snowmaking period I have ever seen at Mt Hutt and our snowmakers have taken full advantage of the conditions to get the ski area to opening point. A new record was set with 45 guns making snow at the same time.”
